Abstract
Hardware resolution of a scanner is increased without improving the quality of the scanner's sensor array or imaging optics. Multiple representations of an image are generated by a scanner. The scanner is configured to intentionally induce a motion error between the representations. A higher resolution image is estimated from the multiple, lower resolution representations by using an estimation algorithm such as a projections onto convex sets (""POCS""), maximum likelihood (""ML""), or maximum A-posteriori probability (""MAP"") based algorithm.
