Abstract

For many individuals, relatively good health continues into later life, but physiological changes and disease eventually take their toll, leading to functional and cognitive decline. Dementia has reached epidemic proportions among the elderly. Alzheimer disease, the most prevalent cause of dementia, has been the subject of a vast literature over the past few decades. However, the medical literature has shown limited interest in cognitive impairment and dementia resulting from Parkinson disease.
