Abstract

Engineering materials possessing custom symmetry-group-based periodic patterns unlock an auspicious approach for obtaining vibration isolation properties, giving rise to new acoustic devices. The challenge is to enhance the vibration isolation properties of such metamaterials by exploiting their features. Here, we, both numerically and experimentally, investigate and improve a custom design concept that utilizes the p4gm symmetry group and enhance by up to 20% its omnidirectional ultrasonic band gap. We also compare the proposed designs to the classic ones and prove that one can achieve exceptionally wide band gaps by utilizing high symmetry groups.
