Data-driven background estimation in ATLAS

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

The search for a charged Higgs with its mass below the top quark mass in ATLAS assumes a production of this boson in tt̄ events. This leads to a significant background from a variety of sources common to tt̄ events. As the knowledge of many of these sources is limited, alternative methods were developed to tackle these systematic uncertainties. Data-driven methods are used to estimate most of the background of the charged Higgs searches with the ATLAS detector at the LHC.
