Abstract

Many existing structures that were constructed more than fifty years ago are in high probability for being insufficiently designed for earthquake excitation events. Part of those structures include structural wall elements made of low-performance concrete (LPC) as in existing buildings located in the state of Israel and in parts of the Mediterranean area. This paper presents preliminary experimental results performed on authentical and lab-reproduced beam and wall elements to examine the efficiency of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) flexural strengthening of LPC. The test results provide an insight for the efficiency of FRP flexural strengthening of LPC existing elements.
