Experimental Investigation of the Near-Field of Coaxial Jets

Abstract

This research investigates the near-field flow dynamics of a coaxial water jet using high-speed particle image velocimetry with special emphasis on the vortical structure of the flow. Temporally and spatially resolved measurements of the flow field were taken to capture the vortex generating mechanism. The dominating instability mode was investigated for each case and a power spectral density analysis was performed. Appropriate Strouhal numbers and flow time scales for each mixing layer were extracted.
