Abstract

In this chapter, we focus on the training of prospective mathematics teachers who study at the Technion in a program called Views. Views invites Technion graduates back to the Technion Faculty of Education in Science and Technology, to study towards an additional bachelor's degree that includes a high school teaching cer tificate. Graduates can choose among the eight tracks of STEM education offered by the program, one of which is mathematics education. In this chapter, we intro duce the Views program and, in particular, its mathematics education track, and present the unique characteristics of the students studying in this track. Specifi cally, we identify their motivational factors for joining the program as a second career, and present how they perceive their unique contribution to the education system in Israel, both as engineers and scientists and as parents.
