N2 - An experimental and numerical study of a three-dimensional, complex geometry, control valve was performed for model validation and improved understanding of valve flow features. The commercially available CFD code, FLUENT, was used as the numerical model. Ten pressure taps placed along the valve were used, together with a flow meter and a linear voltage displacement transducer aligned with the piston, to obtained pressure and flow data as a function of piston position. Numerical predictions were in reasonable agreement with the experimental data in both open and pressure regulation valve operation. The CFD code can now be used more confidently to design future valve improvements.
