Abstract

The article provides a brief summary of selected publications about neighborhood/s by scholars in the social and behavioral sciences as well as by urban planners and architects. Neighborhoods have been part of the human mode of life since the dawn of civilization. In spite of the current decreasing importance of distance, following the accelerated development of telecommunication, it seems that neighborhoods will continue to exist in the next decades and fulfill important social functions for many persons in at least some of their time on earth.
